IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller drama television series directed by Anubhav Sinha. The series is produced by Sarita Patil and Sanjay Routray under Matchbox Shots and Benaras Mediaworks. It premiered globally on Netflix on August 29, 2024. The series is adapted from the book “Flight into Fear” by Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury. The screenplay is written by Adrian Levy and Trishant Srivastava.


The series is based on the real-life hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, which occurred on December 24, 1999. The flight, an Airbus A300, was hijacked by five armed men shortly after it entered Indian airspace while enroute from Kathmandu to Delhi. The hijackers forced the plane to land in several locations, including Amritsar, Lahore, Dubai, and finally Kandahar, Afghanistan, which was under Taliban control at the time.

The series features a prominent cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Amrita Puri, Patralekha Paul, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and others.
